Local officials -- who say border security along the Lake Erie coast is lax -- want a local U.S. Border Patrol office.  Ottawa and Erie counties are separated from Canada via Lake Erie, where countless illegal immigrants could pass through undetected.

A new Border Patrol office could curtail that influx, they say.

These local officials from Ottawa and Erie counties met with representatives from the Border Patrol last week to discuss a possible office in either county. Detroit is the closest location in the Lake Erie region.
