HURON

The local chapter of the United Way hoped to raise $900,000 -- the amount the group raised for the prior year's campaign. It fell short of that goal.

"I'm saddened, but not surprised in light of the economy and where we're at right now," said Pamela Colbert-Brumbaugh, executive director of the United Way of Erie County.

At its final 2008 campaign report meeting at Sawmill Creek Resort, the organization announced it reached 68 percent of its goal -- about $600,000.
