The city is starting the new year with a little less baggage after two federal lawsuits were settled.

In the first lawsuit, filed in September 2006 in the U.S. District Court in Toledo, a 19-year-old woman sought more than $10 million in damages from the city for sex crimes committed by former Sandusky police Officer James Fitzpatrick. The plaintiff was abused by Fitzpatrick in a police substation in 2003 when she was 15 after she met him through a police ride-along program.
