Attorneys for Firelands Regional Medical Center have asked that a 11-year-old lawsuit over the rights to discarded fetuses be dismissed in Erie County Common Pleas Court.

In the 1997 class action lawsuit, a group of 187 women said they suffered "emotional injury" after their fetal tissues were kept at the hospital between 1988 and 1996.

Former hospital employee, Patricia Lukas, mishandled the fetuses according to the plaintiffs. She was fired after saving fetuses in glass bottles rather than disposing of them in a tissue grinder.
