Charles Highlander spoke his final motion to adjourn Thursday night after 24 years as a Groton Township trustee.
Highlander became trustee in 1983 after his father retired from the position. He said it was the possibility of improving the township that drew him to the position.
"My dad had been trustee, and I had been zoning inspector, so I kind of knew what the job entailed," he said. "You're managing the township and making it prosper and get better."
