MONROEVILLE

A 6-week-old girl nestled between her parents didn't wake up Thursday morning.

Her mother, Courtney Gentry, 18, said she found her daughter lifeless in the couple's bed at their Monroeville home.

Huron County Coroner Jeff Harwood isn't sure why the baby died, but his preliminary ruling is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

According to a Monroeville police report, the first-time mother and the baby's father, Benjamin Magestro III, woke at 5 a.m. to feed Afton Annette Gentry. They lay back down on the bed with the baby lying between them on her back against her mother's arm.

"The baby was quiet after eating, was not crying and only making baby noises," the report said.

When Gentry awoke again at about 9:30 a.m., little Afton did not.

Gentry alerted the baby's grandfather and called 911.
