A new policy at the Erie County Sheriff's office has led to a steady drop in the number of warrants on file.

What started off as a list of 620 warrants in January is now down to 496. The department replaced its one-paragraph warrant service policy with a six-page comprehensive policy in late January after a series of Register articles detailed the backlog of warrants and failure of the department to serve a warrant on a suspected child rapist.
