Scott Speer wept loudly Wednesday as an Ottawa County jury found him not guilty of murder in the drowning death of his friend, James Barnett.
The jury of ten women and two men returned a verdict of not guilty on murder and aggravated murder charges but convicted Speer of aggravated vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter.
Speer's sentencing is 10:30 a.m. Oct. 31 at the Ottawa County Common Pleas Court. He could serve up to 5 years in prison and pay a $10,000 fine.
