Another holiday has passed and I wonder how many families were inconvenienced or will have trouble adjusting schedules this school year? I believe bank, postal, state and government employee's holidays should coincide with school holidays. Also, the state should take charge and set the same time period for Christmas and Easter vacations. I remember having a hard time adjusting trips, family gatherings, etc., so my kids could be with their cousins from other school districts. All schools in Ohio have to schedule the same number of days. So, why not start the Wednesday after Labor Day and continue until Memorial Day? It used to be that way.
I don't know if it's the individual school boards that are setting all the rules, but some commission on the state level should show more compassion for the children as well as the parents. Small school children are waiting in the dark for school busses at 6:30 a.m. so they get our of school at 2:30 p.m. while parents are still at work -- how ludicrous. Why can't they go from 9 a.m. until 3:30 or 4 p.m.?
I don't have any school anymore, thank God, but shouldn't some good old common sense come in to play when it seems so simple and would help so many?
