When I look back over Judge O'Brien's record, reported in this newspaper over the last eight years, I see he levies smaller fees and court costs on law breakers but still doesn't collect them. A million dollars uncollected, according to his annual report. Is that a punishment or deterrent to anyone? I guess to us the innocent taxpayers.

I see that in the early part of the judge's current term he was indicted by an Erie County grand jury, which indictment was not tried, but dismissed by a visiting prosecutor while the case was presided over by a visiting judge. His probation officer took the rap and the employee lost her job. Shouldn't the judge and his clerk have known an employee was being paid for work not performed? That cost us, the taxpayers, thousands of dollars, for a visiting judge, while he was off on paid administrative leave.

There are many other reasons why the current judge's record should tell all of us it is time for him to go.

When we vote this fall to elect a judge, it should not be based on partisan politics.

After looking at the above reasons, I know it's time for a change, Elect Mike Kaufman.
