SANDUSKY

The Sandusky State Theatre will receive a makeover, thanks to two grants worth a total of $308,848.

The first grant, from the Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission, is $201,848, and the second, from the National Park Service's "Save America's Treasures Program" will add $107,000.

The theater will use those funds for improvements that include the restoration of the second floor double-hung wooden windows, the main doors beneath the marquee, the exterior brick and terra cotta and the canopy and fire escapes. The theater will offer a tour of the areas it plans to restore at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

This money is still coming out of the taxpayers pocket. Just from state coffers not local taxation. Just think of it from your left pocket not your right. It's still coming from your pocket.

@ outsider:

Ya got that right:   One person's subsidy is another person's tax.   The State and the nation are BROKE. The liberals believe that if people only paid out more of their hard work in taxes all of our fiscal and budgetary problems will be solved - wrong!   Until spending is curtailed, the national and State bleeding will continue until we eventually commit  economic suicide.

Everybody complains there is nothing to do downtown.......then they bi*&h about having their money spent on

something that will help downtown. Go figure. I agree that the nation is going broke but who put us therr?

i'm conservative and i am just getting tired of the blame game. If the windows and doors need to be fixed to save a landmark like the State Theater then so be it.  At least its getting used as a venue for shows rentals and

whatever else it can be used for unlike the eyesore that is just down the street...........................keller bldg.

downtown first

Heavy stuff there, I was gonna say use the  money to bring back the bowling alley and that store on the corner (began with an "R")

I would like to see a broader range of acts in this venue............I've been to some of the "shows" there, and whoever is the director of programming for this GEM, must have thier head up where the Sun don't shine. The State is not being used to its potential. I would love to see some national acts perform there. Like "House of Blues" in Cleveland. The accoustics are sufficient, and the seating exists........Why not? Last time I was there, was for the "No Names of Comedy " show. Musta been all of 200 people there.

How disappointing............Best part of the night was dinner with friends before the show, and of course they sold beer there. That made it bearable.

dear mr 9mm ...........really a moniker like that could be interpreted in the wrong way.....and then you say you haven't been there since the no-names of comedy? just shows your intelligence of where you are in the community.......I think that kenny rogers was sold out hmmmmmmm and rodney carrington ............

plus one other thing if you dont have anything nice to say then dont say it at all..............................

and the no names were there about 5 years ago have you been back to catch a show since then?.............................................................................................................................................................................

didnt think so ..........

Look at this clock, ever minute our national debt increases over 1 million dollars!

And we have money for this building that seldom ever sells out?

I like the state theatre, it is a landmark.  Too bad they rarely have anything there I would ever want to see.

hancrack me up

Instead of blowing the $ on boring stuff, why not use some of the loot to book some decent acts? I say turn it into a brothel or a hostel.

The bad acts sure outnumber the good down there: Nunsense, Todd Rundgren, The Nobodies of Comedy, the Brothers For the Struggle (when the riot broke out there one new years eve) just to name a few.
