One of Ottawa County's greatest assets is the Ottawa County Senior Resources Department. Three years ago I was lucky enough to work with a diverse group of Seniors from all over the county, and we successfully passed the Ottawa County Senior Levy.

It is time to renew that levy and this group of seniors is hard at work again.

Over the last three years they have been part of a Senior Advisory Council which was created to advise the Senior Resources Department and make sure levy funds are being managed the way they were intended. And over that time, the money raised through the levy has done a tremendous amount of good for all seniors from Put-In-Bay to Marblehead to Elmore including the new senior and the seasoned senior, the active senior and the frail senior. It would take way too long to list all the programs, services and events that they offer, but barely a week goes by that there's not something in the paper about what they are doing.

Ottawa County is blessed to have a higher number of seniors than most other counties in Ohio. And the great thing is that this is not a group of people who want or expect others to take care of them. They are active and involved and work hard to make sure Senior Resources in Ottawa County is the best it can be. Let's show our support for their efforts by voting for the Senior Levy, Issue 9, on the ballot this Nov. 6.
