Over the last few years, many Americans have been calling for a withdrawal of troops from Iraq. However, I believe that we must keep our troops there until the job is done.

First of all, a withdrawal of troops now would basically render the last four years of combat a waste of time. If we withdraw, the soldiers that have died fighting for our country's freedom would have died for a cause that we chose not to finish. If we leave now, it would give a surge of confidence to terrorist organizations around the world looking to strike. It should not take another attack on American soil to show that terrorism needs to be defeated.

To counter the many news stories of soldiers being killed in Iraq are the widely unreported facts that progress is being made in Iraq. General David Petraeus' "surge" strategy has produced progress in trying to take control of Baghdad. If this strategy is successful, it could possibly make the time that troops can be removed even earlier than what the government is hoping.

Supporting the war in Iraq will not only show a unity in America that has not been seen in many years, it will also give confidence to the troops, knowing that Americans are backing their efforts.
