SANDUSKY

Visiting judge Thomas P. Curran sentenced admitted child molester Donald Binette Thursday morning to 14 months in prison after hearing a passionate plea from the mother of one of his victims.

Binette, who is the adopted brother of Erie County Common Pleas Judge Roger Binette, pleaded guilty on June 11 to two counts of felony gross sexual imposition for sexually assaulting two underage girls, one who was 15 and the other who was 10-years-old.

"I'm a mother and I am pleading with the court to make sure the punishment fits the crime in this case," the victim's mother said.

Curran also ordered Binette to register as a sex offender for 10 years and that he be monitored by the state for five years once he's released from jail.

"Your honor, I ask that my client be given a few days to get his affairs in order before he reports," said Public Defender Richard Gerrand, who represents Binette.

"His report day is today...this morning," said Curran, who ordered that Binette be taken into custody immediately.
