VERMILION

Competition will be stiff to win one of seven seats sought by 13 candidates for Vermilion City Council.

Five incumbents will challenge eight hopefuls for five ward seats, an at-large seat and council president -- all two-year terms.

Don Flak will challenge current council president Fred Ostrander for the presidency.

Ostrander said he would like to see the projects from the current council that are in the works continued and finished if he wins re-election.

Flak, a five-term member of council, is running for the president seat because he feels the council needs to have a purpose and focus. In his opinion that's not happening with present leadership.
