This letter is in response to "Decay on the Bay," (Reader forum, Aug. 16). I am fuming right now ... absolutely fuming! This mentality is exactly what we do not need right now!
Kudos to Chuck Davis and his people, selling 167 of the 200 condos at Chesapeake Lofts. Especially since they are not even finished! You are looking for that downtown traffic? Foot traffic? What kind of developer waits until all 200 units are built, then decides to sell them? Just the fact that the condos are selling the way they are and the project is still ongoing is a great sign! It does not take a genius to figure out that if people are interested, sell!
Also, I am sick of people saying that the locals cannot afford it. I can't. BUT, that does not mean that people from Cleveland, Toledo and Columbus cannot. Heaven forbid people come from other areas to move here, pay taxes here and spend their money here.
I moved here about 10 years ago. I married a local. I now consider myself a local. We own a home here, we buy our cars here, we buy our home repair needs here, our kids are in the schools here, in Sandusky! But if I hadn't moved here, my money would have been spent elsewhere. It is not much, but it is my money. And collectively, the people who have moved here have a lot of it!
