Apparent multiple transformer failures this morning caused electric power to be lost for about three hours downtown and in several other locations throughout Sandusky, according to city police.
A police dispatcher said the department had been told by Ohio Edison that high power usage caused multiple transformers to fail. Power went out between 1:15 and 1:30 a.m. downtown.
Street lights were operating on Market Street east of Wayne Street, but downtown and the city center were dark, as was much of the city’s west side.
The printing of the Sandusky Register was delayed as our battery backups had failed. The presses are now running for today's delivery.
Power was restored to downtown at about 3:30 a.m.
Ohio Edison could not be reached for comment.
