A three-day search for the culprits behind the vandalism of a Civil War statue ended Friday with three boys in trouble.

According to New London Police, officers questioned three teenage boys Friday concerning the incident.

The department said two of the boys admitted to being involved with the vandalism of the 1897 Civil War memorial monument. The third boy claimed it was an accident. As of Friday, all three were awaiting a court date to discuss the possible legal action.

The statue of a soldier holding a rifle has been a fixture in a park adjacent to the New London Library for 110 years.
