SANDUSKY

Tired of hearing what the weather is at the Cleveland airport?

Don't trust the weatherman?

Now you can get current weather conditions in Sandusky that aren't extrapolated data from the National Weather Service or from the nearest metropolitan area.

Live, local and in real time, readers can log-on to the Register to find out the exact weather conditions in Sandusky, Put-in-Bay, Marblehead and a Lake Erie government buoy.

The Davis Vantagepro weather station mounted on the Register's TV transmitter tower can provide current information about temperature, humidity, precipitation and wind.

Additional data is fed to the Register site via existing weather stations at locations including Put-in-Bay and Marblehead.

Now deciding whether you need a sweater down by the bay or if you need a wetsuit to be in the lake won't be a guessing game based on Cleveland or Toledo data.

The data will be compiled to create a continuous historical record of weather conditions in Sandusky and the surrounding areas.

"Now boaters will be able to take a visual reading on the bay with the Funcam and a numeric reading," said Patrick O'Brien, Register Web director and systems administrator.

O'Brien explained that most weather sites that provide local data are actually using major metro areas data and applying formulas to estimate the current conditions in Sandusky, they don't necessarily monitor the actual conditions in Sandusky to the minute.
