Every small child in Erie County ought to be tested for lead poisoning, says Pam Benedict, lead poison prevention program manager for the Erie County Health Department.
And now, every parent in Erie County can afford to have the testing done. The health department has scheduled free lead testing for children younger than 6 at two locations in Erie County during the next few days.
The first testing session will be 9 a.m.-noon Monday in the health department's mobile unit, which will be parked at Erie County Job and Family Services, 221 W. Parish St.
Testing also will be carried out from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Vermilion Board of Education building, 1230 Beechview in Vermilion.
