Perkins Police chaplain, Rev. Thomas Fant, and township Trustee Bill Dwelle are one step closer to resolving their differences.

A conference took place between the two parties Friday in Erie County Common Pleas Court. All but one of Dwelle's requests for information from Fant were denied.

Judge Roger E. Binette, who presided over the case, asked that Fant explain details surrounding conversations in which he says he heard Dwelle use the "N" word. There are questions surrounding the context of the word if used, and whether it was within religious counseling, according to court documents.

The lawsuit, filed in December 2006, followed events at a September Perkins Township Trustees meeting. There, Fant accused Dwelle of being a bigot and making racist remarks about two black police officers working undercover at the department. Read the full story in Saturday's Register and the ePaper
