I would like to take this opportunity to express my dismay at the Erie County Commissioners for even thinking of spending such a large amount of taxpayer money for a new airport.

The five school systems in Erie County are all teetering on the brink of insolvency and you want to spend on an airport when we already have three within 30 miles of the proposed site.

If the NASA facility wants an airport, then let the feds build and operate it. We have much more pressing needs here in Erie County: the schools.

I knew when you came out against a possible sales tax increase for the schools that you had other plans to raise our sales tax for your own benefit. I find it amazing that all politicians talk about the importance of educating our children, but they all vote to protect their own turf and funding to the detriment of our schools.

I think that of all the taxes available to us to help fund the schools, the sales tax is the most equitable because it is truly a progressive tax -- the more you make in salary normally the more you spend and the more taxes you pay.

Being a business owner in Perkins, I understand the commissioners want to help spur business relocation into the county, but I feel that we have to prioritize how our taxes are spent. I personally will not vote for any new taxes other than for our safety forces and the schools.

In closing, I call on our politicians to tread lightly when coming up with new ways to spend our tax money because the American people are just about taxed out.
