Sometimes I believe the Sandusky City Commissioners are very shallow in their thinking and now I am more convinced in light of their recent decision the old Memorial Hospital would make an ideal location for the new YMCA.

Have any of them ever driven in that area when Sandusky High lets out? It’s like dodging a bullet with students walking, running, congregating and crossing the street in all directions, not to mention the influx of traffic coming down Ohio 4 and the Delphi plant.

To accommodate what the Y would have to offer, the present building without doubt would have to be torn down and parking would be no better, if not worse than what they have at their present location. This being the case, listen to the 12-year old who recently spoke out in the Sandusky Register and said, “Leave it where it is.”

The other alternative for the Y would be the vacant IAB building, not only being a huge facility, with more than ample parking, an adjacent park that could work in conjunction with the Y. It not only houses offices, a huge basement, a large ballroom that could serve as a focal point, but it has adequate restrooms, a kitchen if the need arises, a bocce court that many seniors and young adults could utilize and ample room to expand, up, down or sideways. Finally with a proper sign and directions it can easily be seen from the railroad overpass bridge, thus, extending an invitation to the tourist trade. The question is
