June 9-17, almost 1,300 young men from across Ohio came together in Bowling Green to participate in the Buckeye Boys State program sponsored by the American Legion.

I would like to express my absolute disappointment in governor Ted Strickland’s lack of regard for the Boys State delegates. Traditionally, the Governor of Ohio gives an address to the delegates at one of the numerous evening assemblies during the week. Strickland, however, chose not to make that small sacrifice of time. Instead only speaking with the Buckeye Boys State “Governor” and other officials during an exclusive meeting.

Buckeye Boys State is truly “a week to shape a lifetime” for all individuals involved. It is a shame that Governor Strickland was unwilling to help in that shaping.
