The recent bomb threat at Erie County Common Pleas Court has made one need more apparent -- increased security.
Talk of security at the courthouse is not new, but Sheriff Terry Lyons hopes this is the year county commissioners will grant funding to provide that extra protection.
"I would love to (increase security), but our limited manpower from Day 1 has been the issue," he said.
There are five deputies at the Erie County Common Pleas Court, two to three in charge of regularly transporting subjects between the courthouse and the jail, Lyons said. His most recent request, placed in January, is for funding to secure an additional deputy to patrol the building.
"Here it is mid-way through June and I have yet to receive an answer," he said.
