When “Path to Freedom,” a bronze statue depicting a slave family’s journey to a better way of life comes to rest on the shore of Sandusky Bay later this summer, a powerful message will be conveyed to all who view it.

While the idea for the sculpture was born in a LEADS project and the funds to help create it were donated by The Lange Trust, the art is the brainchild of Sandusky artist Susan Schultz.

Her dynamic rendering is nearing completion. The chains binding the fleeing slave are both real and symbolic. His quest for freedom is nearly over
