SANDUSKY

Let's face it -- he loves pizza.

A drunken man fell asleep in his food Sunday night before leading Sandusky police on a foot chase.

The man, Demonte L. Harper, 32, 1200 block of Tyler St., was intoxicated and eating at Cameo Pizza when he fell asleep, his head falling into his pizza, according to the police report.

When employees tried to awaken Harper, he "became extremely belligerent and began yelling at other customers," the police report stated.

Police arrived at 8:26 p.m. and were advised Harper was running westbound on West Monroe Street. An officer gave chase on foot and wrote in the report that Harper was found hiding behind a tree in the 800 block of Maple Ave.

After denying requests by police for Harper to put his hands up, the officer removed a weapon from their holster, after which Harper gave up, the report stated. The officer then found an open bottle of brandy in Harper's rear pants pocket.

Harper was charged with voluntary intoxication, open flask in public and obstructing official business.
