50 years ago, 1957: Higher toll rates would go into effect for cars and light trucks using the 241-mile Ohio Turnpike. The Ohio turnpike commission approved the increase from 1.24 cents per mile to an average of 1.49 cents. The new tolls added 50 cents to the cost of traveling the entire turnpike from Indiana to Pennsylvania from $3 to $3.50.

25 years ago, 1982: A Perkins Township man was arrested after police received a report of a man who stole a portable sign and lost it in a hit-and-run accident in the 2700 block of Sunset Lane in Perkins Township. The man was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and grand theft.

10 years ago, 1997: Perkins police were trying to determine the identity of a man arrested after a routine traffic stop in which an officer was assaulted. While questioning the driver during a 10:30 p.m. traffic stop near the Burger King restaurant on U.S. 250, police noticed a strong odor of marijuana. As an officer attempted to pat down the driver, he was struck. The suspect fled on foot and was caught shortly afterwards.
