As gas prices get higher and higher, we keep hearing people blame the evil oil companies and all the money they are making and the greed they have.
Is it really the oil companies? Is it the SUV drivers Al Gore blames as he flies in a private jet, burning more fuel in a day than any SUV in a year?
I blame the government. When it comes to profit, in 49 of 50 states, the government makes more money per gallon of gas than the oil companies. Not only does the government get 40-80 cents a gallon depending on the state, but then the govenment gets to tax the profits of the oil company, the gas company and the clerks, plus the sale tax of all items sold inside the stores.
So the greed is in our government, not the oil companies.
To make matters worse, we import 70 percent of our oil even though we have reserves we will not drill in Alaska and off the East Coast because we would rather put our economy in distress and hurt the poor members of the country than bother a caribou or make a view look different. I guess the survival of the fittest for all you evolution nuts doesn't work here.
These drilling sites are easier than what we do drill and cost a lot less then the rigs off the Gulf of Mexico.
When was the last time we built a new refinery and why does the government not require refineries to go offline to repair during the winter when gas demand is not as high?
All this the oil companies would like to do but the government does not allow them.
So next time you fill up at the pump, don't curse the oil company because the liberal left of the government is more to blame then anyone else for the hurt.
