As gas prices continue to go up, the clock is ticking on Erie County's efforts to develop methane gas generated by rotting garbage in the county landfill.

Erie County's contract with Ameresco, an energy company hired to develop the gas, will expire July 10. That will give county officials a chance to hire somebody else if Ameresco can't come up with a customer for the gas.
