SANDUSKY

The owners of a downtown bar filed an appeal Monday in their lawsuit against Sandusky Newspapers Inc. in Erie County Common Pleas Court.

The bar owners claimed the Sandusky Register "negligently published false and defamatory statements."

The Register denies the accusations.

BMT Management and Robert Tomazic Jr. filed the lawsuit May 13. The suit named Sandusky Newspapers Inc., the Register's parent company, and several of its employees.

The suit was dismissed in February.

The suit stems from the newspaper's coverage of a June 2004 fight that happened in a city parking lot adjacent to The Drinkery -- Tomazic's nightclub. The suit alleges around June 14, 2004, the newspaper began publishing false and defamatory statements regarding Tomazic and his company.
