50 years ago, 1957: Governor C. William O'Neill had accepted an invitation of the Erie County Agricultural Society to attend opening of the sixth annual Junior Fair on August 10 at the new Fairgrounds on S. Columbus Ave. The date had been designated as Governor's Day.

25 years ago, 1982: Oscar Meyer & Co. officials had announced they would relocate the Food Service Division headquarters, at that time based in Sandusky, to the company's headquarters in Madison, Wis.

10 years ago, 1997: Ruth A. Lovett's will left around $325,000 to the Humaine Society after her death. Some of her relatives were contesting the will. Lovett had described her family as reclusive, and believed that as an animal lover they deserved her money more than her family.
