Thumbs UP to police checking out stores for selling alcohol to minors -- or at least without checking an ID.

And thumbs DOWN to the stores, or at least the clerks, who despite years of "We ID" and "We card because we care" placards right there beside the cash register, still don't get the fact it's the law: No alcohol sales to minors.

Thumbs UP to Greater Erie Marketing for at least signing on to the idea of a one-stop shop for the county's economic development efforts. That's one more entity around here talking about cooperation.

Thumbs UP to the Sandusky school levy voter who put her money where her vote was. Laura Mears figured the levy would have cost her an extra $170 a year, had it passed. It didn't, but Mears wanted to express her share of her support in concrete terms.

Thumbs UP for "Dollar a year Don," who's pitching in while Sandusky looks around for a replacement for departing city manager Mike Will. We get the experience and the expertise of Don Miears at a savings -- say, about $96,899.
