PERKINS TWP.

U.S. Marine Corps Lance Corporal Jim Cross returned home May 15 from his first tour of duty in Iraq.

Cross, 27, son of Dan and Jane Cross, graduated from St. Mary Central Catholic High School in 1997, earned a degree in criminal justice from BGSU Firelands and worked as a part-time police officer in Sandusky, Huron and Milan before joining the Marines in 2006.

Cross went to boot camp at Parris Island, S.C. then to Camp LeJeune, N.C. before being deployed to Iraq on Oct. 11, 2006 with Alpha Company, an anti-terrorism battalion. While in Iraq, Cross patrolled the desolate dirt roads surrounding Ashraf and Marfu.
