Fire damages coal docks conveyor belt

SANDUSKY

A conveyor belt at the Sandusky coal docks was damaged by a fire late Saturday night.

Sandusky Fire Department arrived at the Sandusky coal docks near West Monroe Street to respond to a conveyor belt fire about 11:45 p.m., according to firefighters.

The conveyor belt, located on the west side of the coal docks, was later extinguished by 1:15 a.m.

About 100 feet of the conveyor belt had heavy fire damage including damage to the electrical wiring, firefighters said. No damage estimate was available.

The conveyor belt was last used about 10:25 p.m.

Margaretta Fire Department was also called to the scene for assistance.

The fire is still under investigation.
