Donald Miears, former Cedar Point executive, and Gary Packan, assistant city manager, are being considered for interim city manager, said Ex officio Mayor Dan Kaman.
"I have been approached as a possibility," Miears said. "The commissioners want me to attend Monday's meeting. I am planning on being there."
Packan confirmed that he is one of the candidates for the position.
Miears and Packan would replace City Manager Mike Will, who officially resigned Friday and plans to leave his post June 11.
No other candidates are being considered at this time, but another name might come in before the commissioners meeting Monday, Kaman said.
Miears, former executive vice president and general manager for Cedar Point from 1993-2000, is considered the "leading candidate" for interim city manager, said Commissioner Dennis Murray Jr.
"He's got a good background. He's handled different levels of responsibility," Kaman said. "He's pretty well suited to get us through this time of change."
Packan may be too busy trying to wrap up things that Will is leaving behind, Kaman said.
Vice Mayor Dannie Edmon said the commissioners have talked to Miears, but it is not a done deal yet.
"It's going to be a smooth transition," Kaman said. "Mr. Will did a tremendous job at spurring interest in the city and we're looking to continue that."
Will, who has been city manager since June 2004, accepted a job at Invacare in Elyria.
The commissioners will meet 5 p.m. Monday, a regularly scheduled meeting, to discuss other possible candidates for the position.
