With the end of the school year approaching and summer just around the corner there are very few people thinking about next school year. However, if your child will be 3 as of Aug. 1, you need to start thinking now about sending him or her to preschool.

As a fellow parent and a student majoring in early childhood education I just wanted to remind the parents in my community preschools are taking applications for next school year.

Studies have shown that children benefit greatly from preschool. Students that attend preschool are more likely to be successful in their education as well as more socially and emotionally competent.

A positive preschool experience will benefit your child greatly for years to come. The impact of preschool can affect the entire community positively.

There are many types of preschools, from half-day to full-day, and the prices vary. Public preschools and Head Starts can provide low-cost and free educations for eligible families.

Please consider sending your child to preschool; it can have a positive lasting impact.
