The NAACP Sandusky Branch encourages registered voters to carefully consider how the defeat of the 5.4-mill levy will affect our children in the Sandusky City Schools.

Sandusky High School has been rated "Efficient." For a district as diverse as ours, this is admirable. The next category is "Excellent." There are schools within the district, however, that are not doing as well. In order to bring the students up to grade level, the district has initiated a "pre-kindergarden" program. Currently this program is being supported by grants. In the 2007-08 school year, the district hopes to make this program a permanent part of our system. This will ensure the majority of school children who begin kindergarten, will be working at grade level. For this program to expand and be effective, the levy must pass. The NAACP is committed to enhancing early learning opportunities for all students. The NAACP has re-activated a "youth council" to involve younger people in the education principles as well as in other areas, of the NAACP. A good education should be a legacy given to every child in our community. Please vote yes on the levy Tuesday.
