SANDUSKY

The howling started 10 years ago in Wisconsin.

In 2001, the howling extended to Ohio when the Great Wolf Lodge opened the first indoor water park in Sandusky.

Next week, every Great Wolf Lodge will celebrate the company's decade of service -- offering savings and special events for guests.

Starting May 10, families participating in the "Brand Wolf Birthday" will save more than $100 and enjoy some anniversary festivities.

Several activities planned for the weekend include face painting, arcade tournaments, cupcake decorating, a pajama party and a duck race.

The lodge's mascots -- Wiley the Wolf, Biko the Bear and Rowdy the Reindeer -- will also make appearances.

"It's going to be very festive with the mascots," said Sarah Wysong Miller, the director of sales and marketing for Sandusky's Great Wolf Lodge.

Rates will begin at $169 after the discount, which are available on four different suites. Regular rates start at $279. Families signing on for two-night stays will receive a bigger discount, saving up to $240.

The celebration will begin Thursday and end Monday morning for every week until June 10.

Wiley will host a birthday breakfast party and guests will get the opportunity to join him for $10. The price includes participation in the cupcake decorating bonanza and the breakfast.

On Thursdays and Saturdays, Biko will host a pajama dance party. On Fridays and Sundays, the lodge will host an arcade tournament and duck race.

The lodge, located at 4600 Milan Road, will also hold a raffle for guests to win products from toy maker Little Tykes, which value from $100 to $1,000.

"It's a whole month of celebration," Miller said. "We're very excited about it because we were the first indoor water park built in the state of Ohio. We're excited to be celebrating 10 years as a brand."

A two-night stay would normally cost $558.
