Man convicted in murder of aspiring model
A Franklin County jury on Wednesday convicted a 20-yearold man of two counts of murder in the 2005 slaying of an aspiring model. Julie Popovich of suburban Reynoldsburg was last seen in August 2005 leaving a bar near Ohio State University, where she was a student. The 20-year-old’s skeletal remains were found three weeks later by landscape workers in a field near a reservoir in suburban Westerville. Franklin County Common Pleas Court jury also found Adam Saleh guilty of attempted rape, kidnapping and tampering with evidence. Judge Daniel T. Hogan sentenced Saleh to 38 years to life in prison, labeling him a ‘‘shark’’ and a sexual predator. Saleh has denied killing Popovich. He was charged in December 2005 with aggravated murder, but the jury found him not guilty of those counts in convicting him of the lesser offense of murder. The jury began deliberations Tuesday after hearing more than two weeks of testimony from 31 witnesses.
