50 years ago, 1957: Members for the Huron County auditor's department had been assisting Erie County with the establishment of a visual card system listing property owners to the county. The system, set up in steel cabinets and readily accessible in alphabetical order to the public, was originated at Norwalk by former County auditor A.S. Vail, who resided in that city.

25 years ago, 1982: The state auditor's office was reviewing a complaint that in 1976 Huron County Commissioners misappropriated thousands of dollars to build new quarters for the county dog pound. An auditor's office examiner met with Huron County Prosecutor Richard Hauser, and commissioners said that as far as they knew, the complaint had been "cleared up" with "no problem."

10 years ago, 1997: After the previous summer's headache of construction on U.S. 20, it looked like Bellevue residents would have to endure street construction again. Ohio Department of Transportation discovered the street would need to be widened by three feet in a two-block area from Southwest to Lyme streets.
