On Oct. 9, 2000, my husband received the Gift of Life from a loving, caring person -- a liver transplant. I was married almost 42 years to a wonderfully successful, humble man who cared deeply, gave freely and was gentle and kind. We had six years together after his transplant. He had leukemia and died Aug. 20, 2006.

I am very thankful to his donor for the extra time we had together with our two terrific children and their delightful spouses and two wonderful, unique and gifted grandsons.

April is Organ and Tissue Donor awareness month. Please take a moment to think about what you can do, save a life -- be a donor! Discuss with your family, make a decision and be a donor. You can give the gift of life and love. There are 95,785 people in the U.S. transplant waiting list as of April 2. Don't take your organs to heaven, heaven knows we need them here!
