An Erie County Board of Health employee is suing administrators at the health department for violating her religious freedom.
Erie County Board of Health nurse Maria T. Sulewski claims administrators transferred her from one job to another after she refused to give a presentation on birth control and contraception because of her religious beliefs.
She was asked to teach the sessions at two area elementary schools, a junior high school and the EHOVE Career center. Sulewski's attorney, Nicole T. Fiorelli, claims her client informed the board of health when she was hired that she would not give presentations supporting birth control, safe sex or related matters.
Fiorelli claims her client's new position paid less and required her to work more days for fewer hours.
