The Erie County Health Department joined the City of Sandusky in trying to pressure the Norfolk Southern Railroad to stop parking trains filled with trash next to Depot Street in southern Sandusky.

Health Commissioner Pete Schade said at Tuesday's monthly health board meeting that Norfolk Southern officials in Indianapolis were contacted and told trains full of trash cannot be parked next to residential areas.

Schade explained trash from New Jersey, New York and other East Coast areas is being taken by train to a landfill in Ottawa County.
