HURON

Students graduating from BGSU Firelands will hear firsthand from a woman who makes her living writing about real life.

Connie Schultz, an award-winning newspaper columnist and wife of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, is scheduled to speak at the BGSU Firelands commencement 7:30 p.m. May 4.

Schultz is a nationally syndicated columnist for The Plain Dealer. She won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for commentary. Judges called her work "pungent columns that provided a voice for the underdog and the underprivileged."

Jaymee Skelly, from the BGSU Firelands office of marketing and communications, said 70 students will participate in the May 4 ceremony, 38 receiving associate's degrees and 32 receiving bachelor's degrees.
