The Sandusky City School Board of Education unanimously approved a pre-kindergarten pilot program for the 2007-08 school year.
Director of Curriculum Sally Roth said the program stems from wanting Sandusky students to be prepared when they start kindergarten. A study team composed of teachers, counselors and volunteers met weekly in January and March to develop the pilot program. They found that 25 to 50 percent of beginning kindergarten students at Sandusky were unprepared for kindergarten.
The program focuses heavily on literacy, a main problem area for beginning kindergarteners, as well as developing language skills, self-help skills and fine and large motor skills.
