There is an issue with manufactured dog food that is being overlooked:

This dog "food" is actually unhealthy and inappropriate for dogs, even when it does NOT contain rat poison! Dogs should be eating meals of organic raw meats, raw bones, raw vegetables, small amounts of cooked organic grains, oils, and nutritional yeast. While we cannot (and should not) fully replicate a wild dog's diet, we should not ignore the basic main ingredient: raw meat. The current grain-based dog food products are responsible for most canine health problems. (In combination with dogs not getting exercise; get your dogs outside to run please!)

I encourage anyone taking care of an animal to look past all of the shelves of "food" marketed to you. These products have nothing to do with the natural diets of these animals, and the companies manufacturing them have only their profits to be concerned with.

The company responsible produces the pet food for 17 out of the top 20 North American retailers.

It's dangerous to rely on such centralized food production, as this current atrocity is highlighting. If everybody (or every-dog) eats from one factory, then one event at that factory (accidental or intentional) can poison everyone! Please ponder this the next time you are shopping for food, for animals or yourself. It is our responsibility to obtain healthy food for ourselves and those we care for. Grow your own food, buy direct from the farmer, buy organic, stop eating processed foods.
