Monroeville split a forfeit-loaded tri-match with Buckeye Central and Seneca East Tuesday in Attica.
The Eagles forfeited four weightclasses in each dual. Monroeville didn't have a wrestler for the last three matches against Seneca East, which allowed the Tigers 12 free points (one was a double forfeit) for a 37-30 Seneca East victory.
Only six matches were wrestled in the dual with the Bucks. Monroeville won five by forfeit, Buckeye Central two, and there was a double forfeit at 112.
"It's just the way the sport is," Monroeville coach Scott Bauer said. "If you can't field the lineup, it makes it hard to win duals. The BC coach said the same thing: 'How can I go in with that?' It's tough, but it's a problem a lot of D-III guys have."
Hunter Stieber (135), Chris Phillips (189) and Cal Clark (145) were the only Monroeville wrestlers with two on-mat victories in the tri. Cam Tessari (140), Sam Morrison (152) and Ben Ringenberg (171) also won two matches, one each by forfeit.
The Eagles fielded a pair of freshmen at 119 and 125, Nick Tommas and Avery Millis. Tommas split on the day, while Millis fell in both.
Monroeville senior Kyle Boehler split his matches, falling to Seneca East's Alec Marvin, 7-4, and pinning Buckeye Central's Justin Miller in 1:19.
