Willard third at D-II districts: The Crimson Flashes missed a chance for the state tournament after firing a 336 at Thursday's state tournament at Sycamore Springs (only the top two teams, Bryan 324 and Liberty-Benton 325, qualified). Cody Tanner led with a 78, followed by Hunter Wiers with an 84.
Individuals fall short: Huron's Keegan Bollenbacher (81) and Bellevue's Justin Schoen (85), both state qualifiers a year ago, failed to make the cut again. Derek Kuns (79) and Bo Pettegrew (82) also narrowly missed. The individual qualifiers were Liberty Center's Cody Knapp (75) and Napoleon's Brandon Lambert (76)
Lake Ridge Academy's Mitchell Rice, a Sandusky native, earned a berth in the D-III state tournament as an individual with a 76 at Seven Hills Golf Course in Hartville.
St. Paul 3, Monroeville 0: The Lady Flyers got revenge for their loss to the Eagles earlier this season with a strong three-set victory over Monroeville Thursday at home, 25-19, 25-20, 25-19. Both teams are now 11-1 in the Firelands Conference, and the Lady Flyers are heading toward their 12th straight FC title.
Edison 3, St. Mary CC 0: The Chargers (19-2, 12-0 SBC) grabbed a share of the conference title -- their second consecutive -- with a win over the Panthers. If Edison can pull off wins against either Clyde (Tuesday in Clyde) or Huron (Thursday in Huron) they will win the conference outright. The Tigers have won or shared every SBC title since 1999.

SBC sweeps D-II district qualifiers: Oak Harbor's Ashley LaFountain, Huron's Brittany Mayer, SMCC's Armelle DeRiso and Perkins' Sarah Sullivan: What do they all have in common? The same goes for the doubles qualifiers -- Port Clinton's Katie Schroeder and Tiffany Colston, Clyde's Amanda Cahill and Lexi Weber, Port Clinton's Amber Peto and Morgan McGlothlin and Edison's Karyn Schmidt and Morgan Schaeffer.
Norwalk sends four: Two Norwalk singles players and one doubles team earned trips to districts by making it to the semifinal round of Thursday's district tournament.
