St. Mary Central Catholic tennis notched its third win in three days with an abbreviated 3-0 victory over Perkins Thursday at Battery Park.
The matches at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles, both close, were rained out after the others had been completed.
Evan Slattery and Connor Stark won No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, for the Panthers, who improved to 11-0, 6-0 in the Sandusky Bay Conference. Slattery defeated Gabe Murray, 6-0, 6-2, while Stark took down Josh Rohrbacher, 6-2, 6-4.
SMCC's Colin Ebert and Alex Opfer scored a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles over Perkins' Shannon Murphy and Zach Grealy.
The Panthers' No. 1 singles player, Andrew Linden, won the first set against Perkins freshman Manickam Manickam, 6-4, but the match was cut short in the second set as they were knotted at 3-3.
The No. 2 doubles match was tied at 1-1 when it was called. The Perkins tandem of Varun Subashchandran and Cody Dominick took the first set, 6-3, while Jared Ebert and Tanner Roth took the second, 6-4. The third set was tied at 3-3 when the match was canceled.
Perkins fell to 5-5, 4-3 in the SBC.
Clyde 5, Huron 0
At Huron, the Fliers won three close matches as they swept the Tigers in SBC play.
Clyde's Isaac Prunty edged Huron's Rory Kaip, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in No. 1 singles.
Both doubles matches went three sets, as well. Blaine MacFarland and Itts Rodrungruang defeated John Dusza and Matthew Wray in No. 1 doubles, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, while David Roach and Derek Yeager took No. 2 doubles for Clyde with a 6-1, 6-7 (7-1), 6-1 victory over Nyle Olds and Dylan Recard.
In No. 2 singles, Andrew Collins defeated Dom Vacca, 6-2, 6-3, while Brandon Carte took No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Austin Thorn.
Port Clinton 5, Edison 0
At Milan, the Redskins (7-3, 6-2) made a clean sweep in SBC play over the host Chargers.
Chalin Cahlik opened with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Edison's John Nickoloff while Mark Fillmore topped Collin Lombardi at second singles, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.
Zach Auxter topped Chris Westfall at third singles, 6-1, 7-5.
At first doubles, Jonny Newton and Jeff Griffin topped Connor Russell and Jeremy Moss, 6-1, 6-1. The second doubles team of Adam Sebastiano and Nils Bach beat Adam Osterling and David Bender, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Norwalk 5, Shelby 0
At Norwalk, the Truckers got back on the winning track with a 5-0 victory over Shelby in an Northern Ohio League match.
Trevor Bowers, undefeated on the season at 11-0, defeated Grant Binion, 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. Norwalk's Harry Love beat Nick Williams in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1, while Sid Beier finished the single sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sam Coleman.
Norwalk's Kyle Scheid and Kevin Bickerstaff scored a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jarred Newmyer and Cole White in No. 1 doubles. Adam Zorn and Karson Schaechterle took down Shelby's Schylar Robertson and John Lawson, 7-5, 6-1.
